Abstract

The study examined motivational beliefs as predicates of entrepreneurial intention of
undergraduates of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Ondo StateCentre. The study
adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population for this study comprised of 5149
undergraduates of NOUN, Ondo State Centre. The sample comprised of 640 undergraduates
selected using a multistage sampling technique. A self-developed and validated research
instrument titled “Motivational Beliefs Questionnaire” (MBQ) was used to elicit information
with a reliability coefficient of 0.85. The result showed that majority of the undergraduates of
NOUN, Ondo State Centre(71.1%) had a high level of entrepreneurial intention and
motivational beliefs variables are significant predictors of entrepreneurial intentions of the
undergraduates 51.3% (Adj. R2=.513). The result however, showed that the prediction of
motivational beliefs variables of extrinsic (Beta= 0.238, t= 4.790), intrinsic (Beta= 0.166, t=
3.733), and task value (Beta= 0.150, t= 3.615) are significant to entrepreneurial intention of
undergraduates, while prediction of self-regulated learning (Beta= 0.055, t= 1.392) was found
not significant. It was recommended that management of NOUN should incorporate practical
entrepreneurship programmes in their curriculum so that undergraduates’ entrepreneurial
intention can be advanced.
