IMPACT OF DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP STYLE ON CREATIVITY AND INNOVATIONS IN BUSINESS EDUCATION IN OYO STATE

Abstract

This study examined the impact of democratic leadership style on creativity and innovations in
Business Education in Oyo State. The population for the study comprised 50 Business Education
lecturers in four colleges of education in Oyo State. A 26-items structured questionnaire was
used to seek the opinion of Business Education lecturers on the subject matter. The instrument
was validated by six experts and the reliability index of 0.82 was obtained using Cronbach
Alpha. One research question was raised for the study and one research hypothesis was tested at
0.05 level of significance. Research question was analyzed using mean while t-test was used to
test the null hypothesis. Consequently, the findings showed that there was direct impact of
democratic leadership style on creativity and innovations in Business Education. It was
therefore, recommended among others that Business Education students in colleges of education
should be motivated by their teachers in an attempt to be more creative, National Commission
for Colleges of Education (NCCE) should also review the courses in Business Education
programme in order to embrace creativity and innovations in an attempt to reflect the current
development and technological changes in the country. Also, Business Education leaders should
use committee for decision making as vessel or tool to be used for development in Business
Education
